The Battle of Baton Rouge

When it comes to the American Civil War, most historians seem focus on the battles that took place in the Eastern states. Few people realize that some extremely bloody battles took place in the central states as well. The results of these skirmishes and battles had a huge impact on the end results. One such battle was the Battle of Baton Rouge.

The Southern forces that hoped to be able to regain control of the state triggered this particular battle. The battle, which was led by Maj. Gen. John C. Breckinridge, was interesting in that it combined both water and land.

The focus of the battle took place on the water. The Confederate Army relied heavily on one battleship, the Arkansas. This was a good ship and if a few things would have gone differently, and the Arkansas could have completely disabled all of the gunboats the Union army had in the area had the mechanics been able to keep her running. This wasn’t to be the case and the engines failed, leaving the Arkansas dead in the water, and allowing the Union gunships to maintain control of Baton Rouges ports. The next day the crew was briefly able to get the engines restarted, but they broke down before the ship was able to help the Confederates establish control of the river.

In the end, the Union maintained control of both Baton Rouge and the state of Louisiana. The total number of casualties of the Battle of Baton Rouge was 371 Union troops and 478 Confederate troops. The most notable casualty was Brig. Gen. Thomas Williams of the Union Army who was killed during the first day of the battle.

Tips for Planning a Trip to Baton Rouge

Not only is the capital of Louisiana, Baton Rouge, one of the prettiest named cities in the United States, it’s also a place that every person should visit at least once in their life. It’s a city you will enjoy no matter what your age might be at the time of your visit.

The best time to visit Baton Rouge will be during the spring, when the weather is spectacular. The days are warm, and the nights are so comfortable that you’ll only need to pack a lightweight jacket. Since the air conditioners haven’t yet been turned on, you won’t have to worry about walking into a blast of heat each time you leave a building.

Adults should plan on spending at least one evening at Swine Palace Productions. The days when livestock use to be exhibited and sold in this old show pavilion are long over. Now the building provides a unique setting for some really well done plays and concerts. It will be a night you won’t forget.

Another place that kids and adults alike should visit is the Old State Capital. Louisiana’s current capital building is a skyscraper that was constructed during Huey P. Long’s time in office. Before that, a building modeled like a castle served as the capital building. The Old State Capital provides an interesting place to explore as well as a fantastic backdrop for vacation photos.

If you’re going to be in the south, you owe it to yourself to see at least one alligator. In Baton Rouge, the best way to do this is to Alligator Bayou Swamp tours. Avoid the Drama at Baton Rouge Pharmacies

I finally had it with the Baton Rouge pharmacies. It seemed that no matter what time I went to buy Fioricet or fill my Seasonale prescription, there was always a sign hanging in the window saying that the pharmacist has gone on break. Even when the sign says that they will only be gone for 15 minutes it seems like I always end up waiting for an hour and then it seems to take them forever to get my prescription.

For me the final straw was when the pharmacist acted like my asking for my prescription was putting them out. That was the day that I decided that using an online pharmacy couldn’t possibly be as miserable as trying to get the Baton Rouge pharmacy that I have always been using.

I wasn’t totally sure that I was making the right decision. My biggest concern was that my health insurance would no longer agree to pay for my prescriptions for Ultram and Tramadol 50mg if I purchased them from an online pharmacy. I was thrilled when I called my health insurance and they not only told me that yes, they do cover prescription purchased from online pharmacies, but they even gave me a list of their approved online pharmacies. Not only did this list reassure me that I would be able to get the prescriptions like Flexeril filled, but the online pharmacies that they listed were also legit.

I can’t believe how easy ordering the prescriptions I needed to have filled. All I had to do was go online and fill out the correct information. The thing that I most liked about the situation is that I didn’t have to interrupt my work day. I could go on the computer whenever I wanted and order my prescriptions. I could even do it in the middle of the night.

My biggest fear with ordering my prescriptions from the online pharmacy was the length of time that would pass before I got them. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do if they never showed up. These are prescription drugs; it isn’t like I can just go an buy more once my medical records show that I’ve already had it filled.

It turns out that my fears were completely unfounded. Every single time I’ve ordered a prescription the prescription has been in my hands within two days of my placing the order. They’ve been very reliable. The other thing that makes me feel better is that they send me the tracking information for the shipment. This means that I should be able to rectify the problem if something does go wrong and my prescription doesn’t get delivered.

I’m so happy with my online prescription experience that I see no reason why I would ever have to go back to using my old pharmacy.

    Visit Baton Rouge and Bring Home a Life of Leisure

    Baton Rouge was not my top choice when we planned our honeymoon.  I was dreaming of a tropical paradise like Hawaii, Barbados, or Maui.  However, my future husband had other plans in mind.  He had grown up in Louisiana and he knew firsthand what kind of fun could be had in Baton Rouge at night, particularly during the summer months.  After he nagged and pleaded for three full months, I finally agreed to go to his destination of choice and visit Baton Rouge after our wedding.

    I was shocked to find that I loved my visit to the city.  I was imagining Louisiana’s capital as boring and purely historic, but I was quite wrong.  It was very swanky with great night clubs and charming cafes situated right at the Mississippi River.  We had a leisurely honeymoon and we stayed at the fanciest hotel in the city.  My favorite part of our gorgeous hotel suite was the whirlpool tubs that were provided in each room.
